Melanie Earp

Melanie (Mel) Earp (Horrocks)

Currently a member of the Standing Orders Committee (SOC) and until recently the North West (NW) Region representative on the Green Party Regional Council (GPRC) where Mel was a Co-Chair.

Mel is on the Watchlist because we think she poses a threat to the wellbeing of GPEW and should not be in any position of power or influence.

Some recent history:
  • Mel is alleged to have made a complaint that resulted in the popular NW Regional Chair being put on a Temporary Suspension Pending Investigation (TSPI).
  • Mel is alleged to have made complaints against the two temporary Co-Chairs of the NW Region (elected to cover the Chair’s suspension) that resulted in them also being put on TSPI.
  • An Emergency General Meeting (EGM) of NW Region was held on 03/10/24 resulting in a vote to recall both GPRC Reps (Mel Earp and Lyndsey McAteer), a highly unusual, if not unprecedented, action for a region to take.
  • In November 2024 elections were held to appoint replacement Reps to GPRC for the remainder of the term. Amanda Onwuemene & Mel Earp were elected. It is worth noting that Mel was only narrowly elected, seemingly because voters didn’t properly understand the STV system and its use of Re Open Nominations (RON).
  • Mel stood for a seat on GPRC in February 2025 but was not re-elected.Some other history:
  • Mel signed the “Purge” motion. This was a failed attempt to ‘Instruct GPRC to suspend all signatories to the Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights’. https://gcgreens.uk/statements/the-purge-motion/
  • Mel was part of a campaign to have a Gender Critical Green of Colour recalled from the Green Party Executive Committee (GPEx). See Screengrab.
  • Mel tried to cause trouble in the 2020 Green Party Women (GPW) committee elections to the extent she was named by the Election Returning Officers. See Screengrabs.
  • Mel is a leading player in the campaign against Shahrar Ali, encouraging others to make complaints about him and allegedly doing so herself. She also targeted those who supported Shahrar’s fundraiser. See Screengrabs.
  • Mel has a seat on SOC whilst also being Co-Chair GPRC [correct on 23/02/25]. On matters that concern GPRC, she recuses from voting but not from speaking in SOC meetings, where she frequently speaks in attempts to influence the outcome.
  • Mel is an SRA Regulated Solicitor but not currently practising.  Some suspect that when various people claim that legal advice has been given (but not shared) this may have come from Mel. We have no evidence that this is the case.
SOC

Mel  has been a member of SOC since 2022. This is the opinion of an ex-member of SOC from his Speaking Out submission of January 2024.

“The new SOC elected in Autumn 2022 included two members continuing from the previous year, the convenor Tim Kiely and Ash Routh, and one other Trans-activist, Melanie Earp, giving them a 3-2 majority on the committee. It has continued to make decisions based on the Trans-activist ideology of its majority members, rather than conforming to an objective and even-handed interpretation of SOCC.”     Speaking Out complaint – Brig Oubridge

And now questions are being asked about Mel’s involvement in the suspensions of the SOC3.

In Conclusion:

Many of us are concerned about her negative influence on the wellbeing of GPEW and its members and Mel is very careful about what she says on the record. But the record shows that she was removed from office by the members of her own Region at an EGM.  Therefore …..

We would urge people NOT to vote for Melanie Earp in any election, and not even place her name below RON.
